SWS Eco Paint Division - Our Green Commitment
Environmental Credentials
The environment and how we care for it is at the top of our agenda at SWS Eco Paint Division. We are a Member of The Eco Decorators Association, who recognise companies that are committed to using Eco Friendly Techniques, methods and products.
We source products that contain raw materials including oils, herbs and minerals to produce carbon-free products for everyday use and our approach is radical as it takes a holistic view of all the issues involved in sourcing materials, manufacture, application and disposal, i.e. the whole life span of a product including packaging. The impact it has on the environment where the products are used is also taken into consideration, this directly lead us to use exclusively eco friendly paints and wallpapers
All of us can make that first step and make that first contribution.
We share a philosophy – Think Global, Act Local!
Environmentally friendly paint used by SWS Eco Paint Specialists:
Casein, or milk paint, was used on woodwork and furniture in America in the 16th through 19th centuries. Created by tinting buttermilk or skimmed milk with earth or vegetable pigments and citrus juice, the paint was prized because it dried to a subtle sheen. There are several companies re-creating the old formula. Nutshell Natural Paints in England is who we choose as their commitment to Eco products mirrors our own.
What are VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are carbon-based compounds that easily evaporate into the atmosphere. VOCs are commonly used in industry for processes such as, degreasing, thinning and dissolving. They can also be found in certain materials, such as, paint, inks and adhesives.
Not managed properly VOCs can be dangerous. These risks include health risks (many VOCs act as irritants or carcinogens), environment (VOCs contribute to the formation of low-level ozone. This causes respiratory diseases, damage to crops and plant life, as well as damaging rubbers and plastics) and financial (most solvents are very expensive to buy and to dispose of as they are classified as ‘special waste’).

Warning: Most of the well-known paint brands contain very high levels of solvents that use Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The average tin of Acrylic household paint contains up to a third VOC based solvents based on volume. A tin of enamel paint can be nearly half VOC based solvents. When buying, check the paint’s VOC rating on the tin to ensure it has no, minimal or low VOC content
